The XXIX OSTIV Congress
OSTIV, the International Scientific and Technical Organization for Gliding, will have its XXIX Congress from 6 to 13 August 2008 in Luesse, Germany.
Since OSTIV was founded 60 years ago, its congress has always been held at the same place and date as the World Gliding Championships. The WGC will be in two places this year, Rieti and Lüsse; the Board of OSTIV decided to have the congress at the same place and date as the 30th WGC for the 15m, 18m and Open Class in Luesse, Germany.
OSTIV has 3 Panels:
- the Sailplane Development Panel, dealing with matters concerning the sailplane,
- the Training and Safety Panel, dealing with matters concerning the pilot,
- the Meteorological Panel, dealing with matters concerning the surroundings of the sailplane.
Each panel consists of about 25 to 30 people, all experts in their own field, and meets once a year. During the two days before the Congress, on 4 and 5 August, the Sailplane Development Panel will have its annual meeting at hotel Sternberg in Luesse.
The time schedule of the XXIX Congress is:
- 6 August 18.00; Opening Ceremony at the Town Hall of Belzig.
- 7 August 10.00 – 12.30 and 14.00 – 17.30; Technical Sessions.
- 8 August 10.00 – 12.30 and 14.00 – 17.30; Technical Sessions
- 9 August 9.00 – 18.00; Excursion
- 10 August 10.00 – 12.30; Technical Session. Airshow in the afternoon.
- 11 August 10.00 – 12.30 and 14.00 – 17.30; Meteorological Sessions.
- 12 August 10.00 – 12.30 and 14.00 – 17.30; Meteorological Sessions.
- 13 August 14.00 – 17.00; General Conference of Active Members
- 13 August 19.00; Closing Dinner at Burghotel Belzig.
The OSTIV Office and Lecture Room are on the airfield of Luesse.
Further details about the lecture scheme and excursion will be announced in July 2008.
The Congress is open for everybody interested to attend, there is no fee!
